Bronfenbrenner's theory of human development is a theory that was, until Bronfenbrenner died in 2005, in a continual state of development. This is, of course, true of all theories; one cannot give an adequate account of Piaget's theory by describing only his earliest books. Bronfenbrenner's theory explains that there are certain cultural and social factors in the immediate environment of a child affect child development and experience. In the immediate vicinity of the child, there are many levels, or systems that can affect and influence the development of children.

This thesis explores the potential of Bronfenbrenner’s Bio-ecological Model of Human Development (Bronfenbrenner and Morris, 2006) as a framework for theory and research in psychology, sociology and education.
